Montgomery County Swim League
The Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) is divided into fifteen divisions (A-O), with the fastest teams in Division A. Assignment to a division is based on a team’s performance during the previous year. Connecticut Belair will compete in "D" Division for 2026.
MCSL Meets Defined
- “A” Meets - The “A” meets are competitive meets where swimmers earn points for their team. Each team is allowed a limited number of entries and swimmers are not allowed to swim more than 3 of the individual stroke events, plus up to 1 relay, plus the Individual Medley for their age group. The coaches generally create the line up, selecting the swimmers with the fastest times in each event.
- “B” Meets - All swimmers, except those who are ineligible based on their performance in events at the A meets, are invited to swim in the Wednesday night B meets. Teams do not keep score, but swimmers earn times and Place Ribbons for their accomplishments. Teams are free to add/subtract events/reorder events per mutual agreement.
- “A” Relay Carnival - Each Division has a relay carnival each season. All of the teams swim at the same time and all of the events are relays. Again, usually the swimmers are those with the fastest times, but coaches need to make whole team strategic decisions. Often, the line up for this meet is not set until the afternoon of the Saturday morning meet right before it.
- “B” Relay Carnival - The B relay carnival is on a Sunday morning near the end of the season. All of the events are relays. The coaches design the line up in hopes of giving as many swimmers as possible a chance to swim.
- Divisionals - The last Saturday of the season is the Divisional Championships. All teams in a division swim at the same time. Each team sends two swimmers per event. As with other “A” meets, swimmers earn points for their team, and the team with the most points wins the meet. The difference is that 16 points are awarded for 1st place and 1 point is awarded for twelfth place.
- Coaches Invitational Long Course Meet - The fastest eight swimmers in each event in the entire MCSL league are invited to participate in the Long Course meet. Long Course means that each length of the pool is 50 meters. Swimmers earn these times during the first three dual meets of the season. There is no team scoring for this meet.
- County All Star Relay Meet - On the Saturday after Divisionals the county hosts and All Star Relay Meet. Teams that take first place in the A Relay Carnival for their division are invited to swim in this meet along with some alternates.
- County Individual All Star Meet - MCSL sets All Star nominating times for each event. The fastest 16 swimmers in each event are invited to participate in the All Star Meet. If a swimmer swims faster than a nominating time, then that swimmer is qualified to swim in the meet. However, only the top 16 swimmers, and a few alternates are invited to participate.
